Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51knockouts) looks to stay busy defending his WBC “interim” middleweight title while he awaits the victor of the Sergio Martinez-Miguel Cotto superfight.

Rubio is looking to face off against Ricardo Mayorga, the Nicaraguan loudmouth who seems to keep coming back like Michael or Jason.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said that Mayorga needs to take and pass a medical exam before the fight gets a green light.

Mayorga sports a record of 29-8-1 with 23 knockouts but hasn't defeated a name opponent in ten years unless you consider an over the hill Fernando Vargas a quality victory. He has also embarked on a career in mixed martial arts and sports record of 0-3 in that sport.

The fight is proposed for July. The 41 year old Mayorga will be training under the eye of Yoel Judah (Zab's father) in Las Vegas.

“I'd give him four or five rounds before I knock him out,” said Mayorga in thaboxingvoice. “'El Veneo' is an easy fighter and I sparred with him while preparing for my first fight with Vernon Forrest.”

Mayorga doesn't seem to realize that that was eleven years ago. Nonetheless, Mayorga has long been a comical parody of machismo and his press conferences are more entertaining than his fights.
