It took two years, but now the result is finally official. Manny Pacquiao has defeated Timothy Bradley.

The travesty of justice from June 2012 reached a climax yesterday night as Pacquiao dominated the second half of the twelve round bout and emerged victorious by scorecards of 116-112 twice and 118-110.

“I knew I had to do more in this fight than I did I the last fight,” said Pacquiao.

The fight was relatively even for the first six rounds. Bradley altered his strategy from the first bout and elected to go straight at Pacquiao and throw power shots. There were some tense moments but neither fighter could sustain momentum in the early going.

Bradley, however, seemed to lose steam as the fight went on and complained of a pulled right calf in the corner.

“I'm hurt,” Bradley said.

“Let's just go home then,” said Oscar Diaz between rounds. “Do you want to go home?”

Bradley sucked it up but just seemed outclassed in the second half of the fight. It seemed like Pacquiao could have pressed the issue a bit more but was content to outland his aggressive foe.

“Manny was a little sloppy tonight but I was happy with his performance,” said Freddie Roach.

Random thoughts:

**Pacquiao has lost a step. He seems to coast in the beginning of each round and there are some rounds wherein he doesn't pick up the pace at all. The signs of aging? I rarely pay attention to the Punchstat numbers but his punch volume had decreased from what they were two years ago despite him saying that he "needed to do more" in this second go around.

Bradley needs a new set of wheels. First it was his ankle and now his calf. He's also too intense in there...a tight fighter is a tired one.

I'm sure Pacquiao's mother is a sweet old lady but she looked like some sort of witch doctor in the crowd...She was holding what looked to be a rosary card and talking to it...then pointing her finger at the goings on in the ring...I think she cast a spell on Bradley because after they put the camera on her Bradley complained about pain in his calf, lol....

Trainer Nacho Beristain is reportedly lukewarm on the possibility of his charge, Juan Manuel Marquez, taking on Manny Pacquiao for a fifth time.

Marquez faces the formidable Mike Alvarado on May 17th with the winner guaranteed a shot at the winner of Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley rematch.

Beristain has told whoever is listening that he thinks the final chapter on that rivalry was written when Marquez landed that right cross on the Pacman to end matters in the sixth round back in 2012.

Beristain was quoted in Boxingscene as saying that the fight "is not attractive." He did say that if Pacquiao beats Bradley that he'll "see what Juan decides."

A lot of conjecture going on here as there is no guarantee Marquez gets past Alvarado. He looked old...damn old...trying to chase down Timothy Bradley in his last match. We'll see if Beristain changes his tune depending on Marquez' showing against the gritty Denver contender.

Finally had a chance to check out Luis "King Kong" Ortiz' knockout over Monte Barrett which took place this past Thursday. Barrett, at 42 years old, was never in the fight. His motor skills looked shaky as he lunged awkwardly to land some body shots on the Cuban ex-pat. It was clear that this fight would only be a matter of time...and how much time it took was strictly dependent on how good Luis Ortiz was.

Still hard to get a read on this guy. He has a sharp and accurate left cross...uses his legs surprisingly well at his size but again...evading the blows of a washed up 40-something isn't something to get excited about. At 35 years old, time is of the essence but certainly not of the same urgency as it would have been in boxing's landscape a generation or two ago.

The fight ended in the fourth with Barrett rubbing his nose after absorbing a solid left cross in the kisser. Referee Raul Caiz didn't bother to count as he saw Barrett in pain and the obvious fruitlessness in allowing the bout to continue.

Ortiz goes to 21-0 with 18 knockouts. He clearly needs more competitive foes to get the fans buzzing. Barrett drops to 35-11-2 (20 kos).

South African world champion Simphiwe Vetyeka’s promoter Andile Sidinile has struck a deal with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions that will see his charge facing off with Nonito Donaire on May 10 in Macau.

Donaire is promoted by Top Rank as among the Philippines’ best exports and one of the best fighters in the world.

But Vetyeka’s camp is confident the East London boxer will emerge victorious come fight night.

“We are ready for Nonito Donaire and as Team Vetyeka, we are under no illusion that this is going to be a very difficult fight. But we believe that to be the best you have to beat the best,” said Sidinile.

This will be the highest profile fight yet for Vetyeka who holds the WBA featherweight and the more spurious IBO belt.  He is fresh off an upset win over longtime title holder Chris John. The 33-year-old combatant will be guided by a formidable training camp comprising of former world champion Vuyani “The Beast” Bungu and  Lennox Mpulampula.

Donaire told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard that Vetyeka “is a really good fighter. I think he’s the toughest of all the guys in that division. He’s slick he’s got power, pretty good.”

Vetyeka was expected to defend against John in a rematch but the Indonesian elected to retire, paving the way for a bigger fight against Donaire.

Ruslan Provovnikov has weighed in on the upcoming Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley rematch. Provodikov was mentioned as a possible opponent for Pacquiao despite sharing the same trainer in Freddie Roach. Provodnikov was quoted in allboxing.ru website saying

"I think that if Pacquiao will not be aggressive, then we will see the same exact thing that we saw in their first fight. That being said, Pacquiao has a slight advantage to win. On the other hand, if the fight remains close then Bradley has a good chance to win.

Floyd Mayweather says a highly anticipated fight with Manny Pacquiao will "never happen".

A much talked about mega-fight between both fighters has aggravated boxing fans for about four years.

But the unbeaten Mayweather contends that Pacquiao’s affiliation with promoter Bob Arum is the main reason the fight will never take place.

"We all know the Pacquiao fight, at this particular time, will never happen, and the reason why the fight won't happen is because I will never do business with Bob Arum again in life, and Pacquiao is Bob Arum's fighter," Mayweather told FightHype.com.

"Bob Arum gives Pacquiao a date, whereas Floyd Mayweather gives Floyd Mayweather his own date. I will be fighting again in May and I will be fighting again in September."

Mayweather and Arum have not gotten along since "Money" dumped his former promoter and started his own company.

Mayweather continued: "I'm gonna give you two reasons the Pacquiao fight is not going to happen. Like I said before, I will never do business with Bob Arum in life, but I don't wish him nothing bad.

"And I want to see Manny Pacquiao's real pay-per-view numbers. Get his pay-per-view numbers from his last fight and compare them to my pay-per-view numbers with Canelo Alvarez. Did he do 1.2 million homes? Has he done 1 million homes?"
